SPOKANE, Wash – Fewer Spokane drivers were caught speeding and running red lights by cameras mounted across the city, according to Spokane Police data from January.
The most recent photo red report shows cameras caught 1,360 violations in January. That’s down from 1,457 violations in the same time frame in 2024.
SPD says all of the photo red cameras were online during that time, but SPD believes “we are gaining voluntary compliance with the system in place.”
Photo speed cameras also caught fewer people violating the law.
In January 2025, cameras captured 1,307 violations. That’s down from 1,547 in January 2024.
Some of that could be due to several cameras being offline, though.
SPD says someone vandalized and knocked over the camera at Maple and Rowan and that camera has not yet been replaced. Someone also spraypainted the lenses of the camera at Ridgeview Elementary School on Northwest Boulevard.
That camera was down for almost three weeks, but was back online on January 27th.
Documents from Spokane Police show the city expects to collect $1,320,956 in photo red fines this year and $4,295,187 from school zone fines.
