KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — A couple has been sentenced to prison for a 2024 road rage shooting on Valentine’s Day in Kootenai County.
According to the Kootenai County Prosecutor’s Office, 48-year-old Patrick Joshua Coffey and 44-year-old Carolina Silva were driving erratically behind another vehicle on the evening of February 14, 2024.
Coffey and Silva were tailgating the other vehicle before passing and slamming on their breaks, nearly causing a crash.
Another driver flashed their headlights at Coffey and Silva’s car and the pair got behind the new vehicle and began tailgating it with high beams on.
The driver pulled over to allow Coffey and Silva’s vehicle to pass, but they instead drove up a little ways and pulled over on the side of the road.
Coffey and Silva got out of the car. The Prosecutor’s Office says Silva had a gun and Coffey was telling her to shoot at the victim.
Silva shot at the victim’s vehicle as it drove by.
The couple then drove away from the area but were quickly stopped by responding officers.
Coffey and Silva were arrested for the shooting. No one in the other car was hurt.
Coffey was convicted of discharging a firearm at an occupied vehicle and aggravated assault. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison with parole eligibility after 10 years on March 4, 2025.
The Prosecutor’s Office says Silva took responsibility for her actions and pled guilty to discharging a firearm at a vehicle. She was sentenced to 7 years in prison with parole eligibility after 2 years on November 19, 2024.
