LAS VEGAS – Gonzaga refused to get pushed around by Saint Mary’s for a third time this season. In the biggest game of their year, the Zags took down the Gaels to reclaim the WCC Championship title, 58-51.
Gonzaga earned it’s 22nd WCC title in it’s 28th-straight championship game appearance. The team is now guaranteed to return to March Madness for a 26th-consecutive time, which is the second-longest active streak in Division 1 basketball.
Gonzaga’s Braden Huff led the team with 18 points and 4 assists. Khalif Battle followed behind with 14 points including a block leading to a game-sealing dunk in the final minute. Graham Ike was named WCC tournament MVP after big performances against San Francisco and Saint Mary’s.
Both teams struggled from beyond the arc: Gonzaga shot 1-15 from three, while Saint Mary’s missed every shot from downtown (0-16).
The Zags are now 57-6 under head coach Mark Few in the WCC Tournament. Nolan Hickman has played in every Zags game since November 2021 (137).
Based on where both teams sit in the NET rankings, the Zags and the Gaels would both earn a bid to March Madness regardless of the outcome from the WCC Championship.
