LINCOLN COUNTY, Wash. — An Atlas Missile Silo currently for sale in Lincoln County goes deep into Cold War History.
The property is listed for $1.45 million in a rural part of the county near Sprague, 34 miles west of Spokane.
It has everything you’d want for country living: wide open spaces, stunning sunsets and no neighbors for miles. What makes this property so special though lies buried deep underground.
“The base went active in 1960 and decommissioned in ’64,” said the seller, Thomas Kontinos.
The property was previously owned by his father-in-law. He passed away in 2023, so Kontinos and his wife have decided to sell it.
“In ’95 he started creating his masterpiece,” Kontinos said.
The property is on 24.5 acres of land. The main floor includes a shop, room and bathroom. Kontinos’ father-in-law transformed this piece of history into a modern sanctuary. He constructed an elevator connecting the main floor to the underground, where he built a game room with a basketball hoop, bedrooms, bathrooms, a library and more.
The property still has the original tunnels built in the 1950s that lead to the missile silo with the flame pit still inside.
As Kontinos showcased the property, he spoke of his father-in-law’s accomplishments with pride.
“It took him 30 years to create what he has today. When he passed he was still working on it. He had so much vision on what he wanted to do here it was just unbelievable,” said Kontinos.
Now, it’s time for the next person to carry on the property’s legacy, turning this Cold War relic into a 21st century masterpiece.
