SPOKANE, Wash. — Riverfront Park and the surrounding area has fully reopened to the public following an ammonia leak at the ice ribbon late Friday Night.
According to Spokane Fire Department, the hazardous materials team responded to the area a little before 10:30 p.m. Friday for an ammonia leak.
First responders smelled ammonia outside the building holding the ice ribbon’s mechanical room when they arrived. The HazMat team confirmed there was an ammonia leak and worked to identify the exact location of the leak.
The building was ventilated and specialized equipment was used to make sure the air was safe for a contractor to perform work.
Crews remained on-scene while the contractor worked to get the situation under control.
SFD said the hazard was completed contained around 6:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
Riverfront Park and the surrounding area is fully operational. Bloomsday and other activities should not be impacted by this incident.
