SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Deputies arrested a 17-year-old boy for trying to steal a bicycle out of a home’s garage and stealing a purse out of a parked car on Sunday, according to Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 2 p.m. on June 8, SCSO deputies responded to a reported burglary at a home near N. Country Homes Blvd. and Excell Dr. in Town and Country.
When they arrived, deputies learned the homeowner had left his garage door open while working in the backyard. He heard a noise coming from the garage and walked around the house to see a person standing inside.
The owner asked him what he was doing and he replied, “Sorry, man,” and ran off.
The homeowner said three bicycles in the garage had been moved and he believed the teen was trying to steal one of the bikes.
A neighbor chased the boy until deputies found him running on Country Homes Blvd.
Once in handcuffs, deputies searched the boy’s pockets and found credit cards with a woman’s name, car keys and a garage door opener.
They contacted the woman who said her purse, along with her car keys, credit cards and other belongings had been stolen earlier that day from her car while it was parked outside her home.
The teen was booked into Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center for residential burglary, theft and vehicle prowling.
