CHELAN COUNTY, Wash. — Law enforcement will be embracing “a change in tactics” while searching for the Wenatchee father accused of kidnapping and murdering his three daughters earlier this month.
“We understand that our situation has evolved, it has matured,” said Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison.
32-year-old Travis Decker is currently wanted for murder and kidnapping charges related to the deaths of his three daughters, Paityn, Evelyn and Olivia, ages 9, 8 and 5 respectively.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison said he believes law enforcement is closing in on Decker’s location.
“Every single day that he’s out there, he’s gonna have to aim for perfection. He’s not gonna be able to make a mistake. Cause all we need is one mistake and one day to go in our favor and he’s gonna be in our custody,” Sheriff Morrison said. “So I hope he’s watching. I hope he knows we haven’t given up. But you’re gonna have to be perfect every single day, Travis. We only have to be perfect one day.”
Sheriff Morrison also stated that CCSO will be shifting toward building its case against Decker while Border Patrol agents and other law enforcement officials help in the search efforts.
“We understand that eventually, resources start to tire out,” Sheriff Morrison said. “We recognize that we have to be reasonable and give them the opportunity to rest up and get ready for the second wave when we come in.”
Morrison said while the community will not see the same amount of resources that have been assigned to help track Decker down, people will see a different approach as law enforcement continues to track down leads.
“We have not given up,” Morrison said.
CCSO believes it has tracked Decker to the Blewett Pass area. If you were a solo hiker in the area recently, CCSO said to contact the tip line immediately so investigators can follow up.
CCSO asks people in the area to lock your doors and vehicles and look out for your neighbor’s property.
The United States Marshals Service is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading directly to Decker’s arrest.
CCSO said if you have been in the Enchantments area within the last week and seen anything suspicious, contact the tip line at 509-667-6845 or submit your tip online here.
If you see Decker, call 911 immediately. Do not attempt to contact or approach him. Decker should be considered armed and dangerous.
