SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Spokane County deputies arrested Dylan J. Cassotta, 31, Thursday morning after an alert neighbor reported seeing him break into a home, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident began at 9:50 a.m. when deputies responded to a burglary in progress near the intersection of South Beige Street and East 18th Avenue, deputies said. A neighbor reported seeing Cassotta smash a front window with a bat, climb inside, then flee over a backyard fence.
Deputies found bloody handprints on the fence and learned the victim knew Cassotta but he had no permission to enter the home, according to the sheriff’s office.
Law enforcement located Cassotta around 10:30 a.m. near the East Alki Avenue and North Corbin Road. After being advised of his rights, he admitted to breaking the window and entering the home, saying he was being chased, deputies said.
Deputies also connected Cassotta to an earlier commercial burglary where a dirt bike and UTV were stolen from a business around 4:30 a.m., according to the sheriff’s office. Cassotta admitted to taking the UTV but denied taking the dirt bike. Deputies noted he appeared under the influence.
The stolen UTV was recovered and returned to the business, deputies said.
Cassotta was booked into Spokane County Jail on charges including residential burglary, commercial burglary, vehicle theft, malicious mischief and criminal trespass, plus an unrelated warrant, according to the sheriff’s office.
