SPOKANE, Wash — Washington state and U.S. flags are lowered on Friday, May 15th, in observance of Peace Officers Memorial Day.
Mayor Lisa Brown signed the directive to coincide with Governor Bob Ferguson’s directive for all state buildings.
The day has extra meaning this year due to the death of Spokane County Sheriff Sergeant Ken Salas on August 9th.
“Today we remember and honor peace officers everywhere who lost their lives or were disabled in the line of duty,” said Mayor Lisa Brown. “This year’s recognition is especially important as our community honors Spokane County Sheriff Sergeant Kenneth (Ken) Salas, who was struck and killed while helping with a traffic hazard on Interstate 90.”
