IDAHO — As primary election results continue to be tallied, voters in north Idaho appear to be approving new funds for firefighters but split on schools.
Kootenai County Fire and Rescue ran a temporary levy for $5,200,000 per year for two years. The estimated cost to taxpayers is an increase of approximately $38 per $100,000 in assessed property value.
As of Wednesday morning, that levy is passing with a little more than 62% of voters approving the levy with all precincts reporting.
Also currently passing is a supplemental levy for the Kellogg Joint School District. This levy is for more than $3,500,000 per year over two years. The increase for property owners would be about $93.26 per $100,000 of assessed value. That levy is currently passing with almost 64% of voters for.
A levy for the Lakeland Joint School District appears to be failing. This levy would be for $3,000,000 over five years and would cost taxpayers is approximately $30 per $100,000 of assessed value. Voters are mostly against with 57% against.
