SPOKANE VALLEY – The Spokane Valley Farmers Market has moved to the Scale House Market at The Quarry for the next two years.
The farmer’s market was previously at Balfour Park, but the park is under expansion. The city partnered with Four Roots and the Spokane Conservation District to bring the farmer’s market to its new location.
Scale House Market rotates through about 160 vendors in their indoor market. With the farmers market joining outdoors, they now have space for roughly 220 total vendors each week.
“That is really an enhancement and an ability for our farmers to keep doing business and to grow and to scale, but also to offer more in bulk to the community when they come to shop for fresh produce,” said Rachael Gewock, Scale House operations manager.
The Scale House market provides equipment for all of their vendors, like tents, tables, chairs, and even electricity in each booth. Managers say this is especially helpful for the farmer’s new transition.
“They don’t have to bring their tents. They don’t have to bring tables. They don’t have to bring chairs because we provide all of that for them,” Gewock said.
Local shopper Stephanie Cedarquist said the partnership helps her find local farmers easier.
“I think it’s great because it’s hard for us to know, like where to find these people, right? Like we’re not really on the internet, not on Facebook and stuff,” Cedarquist said. “So how do we find local farmers, how we find the people that we want to support and buy products from?”
The outdoor farmers market runs Friday nights from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. through August. The indoor market is open year-round Wednesday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
