SPOKANE, Wash. — All six Spokane public pools opened today for the 2026 season, offering the community a way to beat the summer heat.
The city operates six aquatic centers: A.M. Cannon, Shadle, Liberty, Witter, Hillyard, and Comstock.
This morning, dozens took advantage of lap swim programs at Comstock Pool. The opening marks the beginning of a full summer season of aquatic programming for people of all ages.
“It is great, people from all over the city come here. And it is a good gathering place for the community,” said Jeff Forsyght, a swimmer at Comstock Pool.
Thanks to upgrades funded by a voter-approved parks levy, the city improved pool decks and boilers for the 2026 season. While these infrastructure improvements may not be immediately visible to everyday swimmers, they ensure the pools can operate reliably throughout the summer months.
Free swim is available at most aquatic centers from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Several locations also offer evening swim from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
The city’s aquatic programming extends beyond recreational swimming. Spokane Parks is offering swim lessons and free swim clinics for children ages 3 to 15.
“We have sessions that go all through August. Safety is our number one priority. We love getting kids the skills to swim safely,” said Jen Papich, recreation director for Spokane Parks. The aquatic centers also have novice swim teams, aquatics fitness classes, and pool rental opportunities.
To get into the aquatic centers, visitors need to register for a SplashPass. A SplashPass is similar to a library card and guarantees access to the city’s aquatic centers. People who live in Spokane can purchase a pass at any of the city’s pools by calling 311, visiting City Hall, or online.
More information on scheduling and programs is available through the city’s parks and recreation department.
