SHOSHONE COUNTY, Idaho — Containment is continuing to grow on the Gold Run Fire burning between Elizabeth Park and Big Creek south of I-90 in Shoshone County.
According to the Idaho Department of Lands, the fire is estimated to be 227 acres with 40% containment.
Firefighters are continuing to strengthen containment lines and extinguish hot spots in the area.
IDL says dead and damaged trees within the area can fall without warning, creating dangerous conditions for firefighters.
Firefighters say weather conditions remain a concern, with winds expected to reach gusts over 30 miles an hour. IDL says these wind gusts could test existing containment lines.
The Highwater Road between Elizabeth Park and Big Creek remains closed to all traffic, including all of Country Club Road. The Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes is open to pedestrian traffic. Visitors should remain alert to firefighting activity in the area and follow any posted signs or instructions from fire personnel.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
