MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. — A Medical Lake educational facility is giving the public a rare chance to interact up close with baby otters, capybaras and African crested porcupines through a series of small-group, hands-on animal experiences.
Wild Haven Animal Experience is now open for booking sessions that allow guests to spend time directly with 5-month-old otters in a hands-on, educational setting. Owners say they deliberately limit group sizes to keep the interactions meaningful and focused on animal welfare.
“We kind of get them (visitors) a little more in touch with the natural side. We try to educate them and answer any questions that the public may have,” said Cody Aguon, co-owner of Wild Haven Animal Experience.
Co-owner Katey Miller said the goal is to create a memorable connection between guests and the animals.
“We try to make it so you get an experience of a lifetime,” Miller said.
Guests can choose from three session types: an otter experience, a capybara experience, otter swim experience, or a combo session that includes both animals. To ensure a safe environment for both visitors and animals, sessions require a minimum of two guests and are capped at six participants.
Children must be at least 5 years old to participate, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
