SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash – A serial rapist convicted of sexually abusing several children has moved into a neighborhood in Spokane Valley.
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office notified the community that Gregory McCrea is now living in the 600 Block of North University Road. That’s just south of Broadway.
McCrea was convicted in 1999. In addition to the sexual abuse charges, he was convicted of possessing an arsenal of weapons, including hand grenades and rocket propelled grenades.
He served time in federal prison before being released to a state facility.
The Department of Corrections told 4 News Now he was placed at Coyote Ridge Corrections Center, then released in 2024.
He was then moved to the Special Commitment Center on McNeil Island.
Experts recently determined McCrea no longer fits the criteria as a sexually violent predator and could not be held at the Special Commitment Center.
McCrea is 82 years old now and his attorney says he is bedridden.
