WHITMAN COUNTY, Wash. — Two firefighters were injured while responding to the Lyons Ferry Fire in Whitman County last week.
According to public information officer Ryan Rodruck with the Washington Department of Natural Resources, the firefighters were injured on Thursday because of an unexpected wind shift while responding to the fire.
Firefighters took action quickly to get them to the hospital. DNR says both firefighters were treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.
As of the last update, the Lyons Ferry Fire is just over 34,000 acres with 53% containment. The fire is burning in both Franklin and Whitman County north of the Snake River.
