SPOKANE, Wash. — New court documents released today include an interview between a Spokane County Sheriff detective and Aaron Farinacci.
In the detective’s report, Farinacci says he started planning setting what would become the Old Trails Fire two weeks before the fire. He researched when there would be high winds and low humidity. In the statement of facts submitted by the detective, Farinacci says he put a time delay device in the field near a fence and monitored the fire as it grew.
He also admitted to starting at least 25 other fires near his home at the Copper River Apartments between July 4th 2025, and August 11th, 2025.
Farinacci now faces a total of three charges for first degree arson.
Court documents show Farinacci waived his rights and agreed to an interview with detectives. For the first hour and a half, he denied any involvement in the Old Trails Fire. Detectives say he eventually gave a full description of how he planned and executed his plan to start fires and maximize the spread.
The detective also wrote down, that Farinacci admitted to starting the Aubrey White Fire in July of 2025.
