SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Public Schools will vote this week on an emergency declaration to help clean up and prepare schools affected by the Spokane Complex Fire.
According to the declaration, which will be voted on at Wednesday’s School Board meeting, this emergency declaration would allow the school district to hire contractors to make any necessary repairs to around a dozen schools and other district facilities before the start of the school year. These schools include Indian Trail Elementary, Flett Middle School and Shadle Park High School.
The district says these schools may need work done because of the Spokane Complex Fire, or need to adjust to accommodate students whose homes were affected by the Spokane Complex Fire.
Typically, school districts must allow time for companies to bid on these projects. This emergency order would waive the bidding period and allow the district to hire companies outright to begin the work as soon as possible.
The district says this declaration is necessary to allow all students in the district to start the 2026-27 school year on time.
