BOUNDARY COUNTY, Idaho — A wildfire started by lightning is burning across more than 2,300 acres, with crews struggling to contain the blaze in extremely steep and rocky terrain.
The Silver Fire, which started August 23, has grown to 2,325 acres with zero containment. There are 55 personnel, two hand crews, one engine, and one helicopter currently assigned to the fire.
An emergency barricade is in place on the Upper Pack River Road (FSR#231) at its intersection with FSR#293, the Pack River Snowmobile Parking area. An interagency effort is underway to close trail access into the area to provide for public safety.
Visitors should avoid these areas and remain aware of the potential for changing conditions. The public is urged to drive cautiously and yield to fire personnel who will be engaged in fire suppression operations in the area.
A Temporary Flight Restriction is in place over the Silver Fire. Violations may result in civil fines up to $75,000 per violation, criminal fines up to $100,000, and up to one year in federal prison.
