COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — Drivers in Coeur d’Alene should prepare for significant traffic changes on Interstate 90 beginning this month and continuing through next year as construction crews undertake major infrastructure work, according to the Idaho Department of Transportation.
Starting Sept. 14, the Northwest Boulevard westbound on ramp will close for approximately two weeks. During this closure, crews will complete stormwater work and final paving in the area. The Northwest Boulevard westbound off-ramp and one lane of westbound I-90 will remain closed through the area during the on-ramp closure.
The temporary configuration will reduce conflicting merge points and provide additional space for drivers entering I-90 from US-95 to safely merge onto the interstate, according to the Idaho Department of Transportation.
By mid-October, traffic patterns will shift significantly. All I-90 traffic will move to the south side of the interstate while crews reconstruct the north side. This major reconstruction project will take approximately 12 months to complete. Two lanes of traffic will remain in each direction during the work.
Also, by mid-October, Huetter Road will close under I-90 for approximately two weeks as crews continue bridge work in the area.
Drivers are encouraged to stay informed about ongoing construction updates and plan their routes accordingly during these traffic impacts.
The Idaho Department of Transportation will post additional details about upcoming work that may affect travelers, pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
