COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — Prescribed fires are planned to begin in the Idaho Panhandle National Forest this week.
The Forest Service says these fires help reduce overgrown vegetation and protect local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires.
Prescribed fires are planned on the south side of the St. Joe River near Avery and east of Hayden Lake.
Smoke may be visible from nearby communities and roadways during the prescribed fires. Areas may be closed to the public for several days for public safety.
Fire crews may cancel prescribed burns if the weather is not suitable to be burning.
