PULLMAN, Wash – Head Coach Kirby Moore will add play calling to his duties, saying in Monday’s press conference he’ll be commanding the offense moving forward.
WSU dropped to 1-4 on the season Saturday with a home loss to new Pac-12 foe Fresno State 26-6.
The Cougars’ only win of the season has come against FCS Duquesne.
The offense has been a particular challenge for WSU, with the Cougs notching 182 yards of total offense against Fresno State and never reaching the end zone.
WSU has scored only three offensive touchdowns in its four games against FBS opponents.
Offensive Coordinator Matt Miller has been calling plays for the offense since joining Coach Moore’s staff this season. He was previously the co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach at Boise State.
Moore and Miller were teammates at Boise State.
Moore said Miller is still on the staff and will be very involved in the offense.
“I can’t wait to go to practice today,” Moore said, when asked if he’s looking forward to calling plays for the offense. Moore was the offensive coordinator at University of Missouri before coming to WSU.
Quarterback Caden Pinnick has struggled to lead the offense. Moore said every quarterback will get reps this week and see where things stand for Friday’s game.
Moore said it’s too early to say if they’ll try a two quarterback approach moving forward.
WSU has a short week to shake off the Fresno State loss. The team heads to Logan, Utah to face Utah State Friday night at 6 pm.
