LATAH COUNTY, Idaho — W. W. “Bill” Thompson, Latah County Prosecuting Attorney, announced today that he will retire at the end of November, concluding a 34-year tenure in office that has made him the longest-serving prosecutor in county history.
Thompson was first elected in 1992 and took office on November 9, 1992. He is the 19th Latah County Prosecuting Attorney since 1902 and currently the longest-serving elected prosecutor in the State of Idaho.
In a thank you letter to Latah County residents, Thompson wrote: “After having the honor and privilege of serving as your County Prosecuting Attorney for 34 years, the time has come for me to move on and allow the next generation to take the Latah County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office forward. I am humbled by the trust and support you have given me and our office since November 9, 1992, when I was first sworn in. You, the people of Latah County, have blessed me with the absolutely best job I could ever dream of – literally a dream come true. I will be forever grateful.”
The Latah County Democratic Central Committee will submit a list of candidates to the Latah County Board of Commissioners, which will appoint Thompson’s replacement to serve through the end of his current term in January 2029.
