SPOKANE, Wash. — When a home burns down, families often lose so much more than the house itself. They lose reminders of the memories that took place there.
On Sunday, a group of 12 local photographers aimed to help create new ones for families who lost their home in the Spokane area fires.
They gathered at Finch Arboretum for the Spokane Family Photo Project and offered free 20-minute photo sessions to families who lost dozens of pictures when their homes burned down.
For many families, this was a positive experience for them as they navigated the next steps of rebuilding.
“We have a lot going on obviously and so this definitely lifts our spirits and brings us so much joy. We’re really grateful for that,” Leah Armendariz said.
The Armendariz family says they plan to move into a new home in Spokane, hoping for a fresh start.
The portrait taken today will be the first memory hung up on the walls of their new home.
