SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash – One person is dead and another detained in a shooting near the Spokane Valley Library.
Police have taped off several buildings in Spokane Valley as part of a crime scene response, including the library at Sprague and Herald.
Police say a 911 call came in, reporting that a shooting had occurred. When the arrived, they found a man on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound.
Deputies and firefighters tried to perform CPR, but the person died at the scene.
Investigators are expected to remain on the scene for the next several hours.
The Spokane Valley Police Chief who briefed reporters did not speculate on a motive. Despite other online reports, Chief Ellis does not think the shooting was related to people dropping off their ballots at the library.
The library closed for the day at 1:30 because of the investigation.
People can still drop off ballots, but they’ll need to do from the north side until the crime scene is clear.
