SPOKANE, Wash. — Construction crews celebrated a major milestone Wednesday as they installed the tallest steel beam on the Spokane Falls Tower, marking the completion of the building’s structural framework with a traditional topping ceremony.
The 12-story residential tower, rising 180 feet above Spokane Falls, reached its peak height as workers bolted the final beam into place.
Some of the more than 500 construction workers who have contributed to the project over the past two years signed the ceremonial white beam before its installation.
“The work and success of this thing is really borne by all the guys, the men and women that are here working on the job site,” said Justin Paine, owner and president of Walker Construction, the company behind the project.
The topping ceremony represents a construction tradition that honors the workers who built the structure.
“And everybody who’s been a part is welcome to sign the beam and keep their name forever sketched inside the building,” Paine said.
Workers have poured over 10,000 cubic yards of concrete during construction, enough concrete to fill three Olympic-sized swimming pools.
“The process itself is time-consuming and grueling, and there are literally hundreds and hundreds of people that have made this happen and have put it together,” Paine said.
The Spokane Falls Tower will house 48 condominiums for sale upon completion, ranging from studio units to three-bedroom condos. The building will provide residents with 360-degree views of Spokane and the falls.
Walker Construction has not released pricing information for the units.
Developers plan to have residents move into the lower floors in the coming months, with the entire project completed by the end of 2026.
The tower has become a prominent feature of Spokane’s skyline during its two-year construction period. Workers will now focus on interior construction and finishing work as the project moves toward completion.
