SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Three runaway juveniles were arrested Monday evening after one assaulted a deputy during a theft investigation.
Deputies responded around 5:35 p.m. March 23 to a report that juveniles had allegedly stolen alcohol from a store near the intersection of North Argonne Road and East Trent Avenue.
When deputies arrived, they located seven teenagers walking north on Argonne Road near East Buckeye Avenue, wearing backpacks and ski masks.
The teens, ages 11 to 16, ran and hid behind a garage.
Two juveniles had active warrants for obstruction and fourth-degree assault and had been reported as runaways. A 12-year-old was also listed as a runaway.
The 12-year-old was placed in a patrol car but began screaming and kicking the windows. When deputies tried to remove him, he attempted to run and struck a deputy in the face. He was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault.
The three juveniles were booked into juvenile detention. No stolen alcohol was found, and the four others were released without charges.
