SPOKANE VALLEY, WA — Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service will host a free spay-neuter clinic on April 26th to address growing dog overpopulation in local communities.
The “Spokane County SNIP” event will provide free procedures for 100 household-owned dogs at SCRAPS, located at 6815 E. Trent Avenue in Spokane Valley.
Spokane County has experienced a significant increase in pregnant dogs, resulting in litters being dropped off at shelters or abandoned as strays. Animal welfare advocates say spaying and neutering is critical for decreasing dog overpopulation.
Pet owners must register in advance and pay a $25 reservation fee, which is refundable or can be donated to fund future events. Registration is available at www.spokanesnip.com. Organizers say pet owners should not contact SCRAPS directly.
The clinic will also offer free rabies and DHLPP vaccines. SCRAPS will provide free microchips for Spokane County dog owners.
Eight local organizations partnered to make the event possible, including Northeast Washington Spay and Neuter Alliance, SCRAPS Hope Foundation, Higher Ground Animal Sanctuary, Murci’s Mission Rescue, The Furry Farm Rescue, SpokAnimal and PetSavers.
