KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — One man died in a shooting near Stateline Speedway in Kootenai County Saturday evening.
According to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called out to the area near Post Falls at around 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Law enforcement was already in the area due to the crowed attending the Lantern Festival at the speedway.
The suspected shooter had tried to leave the area, but was detained by deputies.
A deceased man was also found at the scene.
The sheriff’s office says the shooting happened after an argument between the victim and the suspect leaving the Lantern Festival. KCSO said the suspect then tried to drive through the crowded area.
People are asked to avoid the area. North Beck Road is currently closed while investigators are at the scene.
This is an ongoing investigation. The sheriff’s office says there is no ongoing threat to the public.
