OTHELLO, Wash. — A 33-year-old Othello man died Wednesday evening after being accidentally shot in the neck with a pellet gun in what authorities believe was an accidental discharge involving a young child, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
Adams County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 1100 block of S. Schaake Road at approximately 6:30 p.m. Wednesday for a reported medical emergency involving Geovanni Malacara-Hernandez, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies immediately began rendering aid when they arrived on scene. Othello EMS and Adams County Fire District 5 also responded and provided extensive life-saving efforts for a prolonged period, according to the sheriff’s office.
Malacara-Hernandez was transported to Othello Community Hospital, where medical personnel continued life-saving measures. Despite all efforts, he died from his injuries, authorities said.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office has notified next of kin and continues investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities will not release the names of any children or juveniles involved.
In a statement, Sheriff Wagner extended condolences to Malacara-Hernandez’s family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.
The investigation remains ongoing, the sheriff’s office said.
