SHOSHONE COUNTY, Idaho — Firefighters have achieved 100% containment on the Gold Run Fire, a 217-acre blaze that burned between Elizabeth Park and Big Creek south of Interstate 90 in Shoshone County.
Crews constructed and secured fireline around the entire perimeter of the fire, extinguished hot spots, and reduced residual heat deep into the fire’s interior. Patrols and mop-up operations kept the fire contained despite recent hot, dry, and windy conditions.
The North Idaho Type 3 Incident Management Team will transfer command of the Gold Run Fire to the local Idaho Department of Lands unit at 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 23. Local resources will continue monitoring the fire and responding to any issues that arise. Smoke from the interior may remain visible for several weeks.
Crews are now backhauing noncritical supplies and equipment from the fire area as operations shift toward suppression repair work and local management. Resources assigned to the incident are being released as part of the demobilization process, allowing firefighters and equipment to return to their home units and remain available for other incidents across the region.
Avista crews are working to restore power infrastructure damaged by the fire. Restoration efforts focus on replacing damaged poles and restoring power to customers still affected by the incident. Fire managers and utility personnel are coordinating to ensure work is completed safely.
Country Club Road and Gold Run Road remain closed while suppression repair, utility work, and equipment removal continue. The public is asked to stay alert to personnel working in the area and follow all posted signs and instructions.
