Hillsboro, Ore. -The Spokane Indians are still on a roll, playing some of the best baseball in the Northwest League right now.
Spokane edged Hillsboro 1-0 Saturday night, extending its winning streak to eight games behind another dominant pitching performance.
The only score in the game happened in the third inning. Ethan Hedges grounded out to second base, the fielders choice brought Hopfe home from third for the lone run of the ballgame.
That was all the Indians’ pitching staff needed. As Lebarron Johnson Jr. was the star of the show, pitching six scoreless innings and giving up just five hits, while also striking out five batters. Then, Kyle Ayers took over and did a great job, throwing four more scoreless innings in relief. Finally, Justin Loer came in to finish the game, earning his second save of the season by closing out the ninth inning.
Hillsboro threatened late, putting the tying run at third in the eighth and loading the bases with two outs in the ninth, but Loer induced a game-ending lineout to preserve Spokane’s shutout victory.
Hopfe is on a roll, having hit in 20 games in a row, which is the longest streak going on right now in professional baseball.
The Indians will aim to get their ninth straight win tomorrow with the series finale against the hops, with first pitch scheduled for 1:05
