SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A fire on the balcony of a three-story apartment complex in Spokane Valley was quickly put out thanks to the building’s sprinkler system.
According to the Spokane Valley Fire Department, the fire recently started on the balcony and began spreading to the exterior siding of the building.
Luckily, sprinklers on the apartment balcony were able to put out the fire before it could spread further into the building.
The fire caused an estimated $4,500 in damages. No injuries were reported.
SVFD says while the fire is still under investigation, it is possible combustible materials leaning against the air conditioning unit could have caused the fire.
The fire department says if you live in an apartment, never block or tamper with sprinkler heads, make sure sprinklers are working properly, keep combustible materials away from outside walls and air conditioning units, clean air conditioner filters regularly, and report sprinkler systems that are not working properly to your property management immediately.
