East Valley hungry for more after 5-5 season

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – East Valley football is looking to build on the progress it has made over the last few seasons.

The Knights went just 1-9 in 2022, but have won at least three games in every season since. That improvement reached another level last fall, when East Valley went 5-5 overall, finished 4-2 in district play and reached the postseason.

Now, the Knights want to take another step.

“Honestly, just getting that home playoff game,” Senior Safety and Tight end Wyatt Medcalf said of his goals for his final season. “And then other than that, I just want to have fun during my last ride with my friends.”

East Valley will have to replace several seniors from last year’s team, 2025 GSL 2A Coach of the year Adam Fischer knows depth will be a challenge.

“We are lower on numbers, that’s for sure,” Fischer said. “But, you know, we have some real good skill players and some offensive linemen that have had some quality experience from the years before.”

Fischer is especially encouraged by the speed on this year’s roster, something he says East Valley hasn’t had in recent years.

“Our skill guys have some speed that we haven’t had for years,” Fischer said.

With a smaller roster, staying healthy will be especially important. The Knights believe their work ethic and toughness can help make up for a lack of numbers.

They also have the benefit of experiencing playoff football for themselves last season.

“You have a little taste of some success,” Fischer said. “It’s not given the next year by any means, but you understand why you got to a certain level.”

East Valley hopes that experience, along with its returning players and new playmakers, can keep the program’s upward trajectory going.

“We’re going to go out there. We’re just gonna give it everything we got. Every single play. Every single game,” Junior Linebacker Isaiah Lewis said.

The Knights open the season Sept. 4 against Riverside before beginning district play Sept. 18 at West Valley.
