CALGARY, Alberta- The Calgary Flames have taken an important step in developing their newest wave of talent, signing forward Chase Harrington to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Harrington, an 18-year-old native of Prince George, B.C., was selected by Calgary with the 36th overall pick in the second round of the 2026 NHL Draft. The deal arrives just as the forward begins a major season with the WHL’s Spokane Chiefs, where he has been named captain for 2026–27.
The signing rewards a productive 2025–26 campaign in Spokane. Harrington led the Chiefs in scoring with a career-best 57 points, recording a team-high 28 goals along with 29 assists in 61 games. His combination of offensive production and physical engagement was equally evident in his 105 penalty minutes, which also paced the club.
That competitive personality was on display immediately this season. Harrington opened the Chiefs’ campaign with a goal, two assists and a fight in Spokane’s 3–2 victory over Tri-City, completing a Gordie Howe hat trick in the process. It was an early example of the varied game that has made him one of Calgary’s most intriguing young forwards.
Harrington has already had a taste of the NHL environment as well. He appeared in his first preseason game with the Flames on September 24, skating against Seattle. While his development will continue in junior hockey, the experience provided an early look at the pace and demands of the professional level.
For Calgary, the contract secures a prospect whose game offers more than offence alone. Harrington has shown he can finish plays, contribute as a playmaker and bring an unmistakable physical presence. Just as importantly, he will now carry the responsibility of captaincy in Spokane—an opportunity that could further sharpen his leadership skills before he moves on to the professional ranks.
The Flames will be patient with Harrington’s development, but his production, competitiveness and willingness to play with an edge give the organization plenty to watch over the coming seasons. With his entry-level deal in place, Harrington’s path toward Calgary is officially underway.
