SPOKANE VALLEY — What began as a terrifying morning for a dog owner ended with a tail-wagging reunion thanks to Engine 7 firefighters.
Spokane Valley firefighters responded to a car fire Wednesday morning where flames engulfed the vehicle. The owner and two friends were shopping at a nearby grocery store, unaware their dog was trapped inside the burning car.
The dog had retreated to the back of the vehicle to escape the intense heat and smoke. Engine 7 quickly knocked down the flames and worked to extract the animal.
When firefighters reached the dog, he was in rough shape with melted whiskers and showing signs of smoke inhalation. The firefighters provided oxygen and emergency care as they monitored his condition closely.
Gradually, the dog began to respond to treatment. With continued oxygen and time, the animal’s condition improved. The pup got back on his feet, running around and happily reunited with his owner.
What had started as a dangerous emergency call ended with the best possible outcome — a family back together.
“That’s why we do what we do,” Engine 7 firefighters reflected on the successful rescue.
