SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane’s beloved Looff Carrousel is one step closer to bringing it’s original music back to life.
For over a decade, the carrousel’s band organ sat silently out of commission.
Last year, a dedicated group of volunteers came together to start replacing and repairing the instrument’s broken parts.
As of January 2025, the Spokane Parks Foundation has raised half of the $15,000 needed to restore the band organ and is asking the community for help to complete the project.
The band organ currently plays on a paper roll that reads holes in the paper to play the notes. The hope is to convert the instrument to a digital system.
The Spokane Parks Foundation’s said they plan for the band organ to be up and running by May 2025.
